Home " About us
Verpaalen Soft Fruit originated in the early 1960s. At that time, the company was a mixed farm that included cows, pigs, raspberries, Brussels sprouts, pickles and strawberries. In the early 1970s, the company stopped raising livestock. As a result, the farm became an outdoor vegetable farm. Around 1980, the Verpaalen family began to specialize in outdoor strawberry cultivation. Through refrigerated cultivation (60-day planting), cultivation, labor and risk were spread. The company planted on different dates so that strawberries could be harvested from mid-May to mid-September. In addition, own selection material and waiting bed plants were raised.
In the late 1990s, the company switched from outdoor strawberry production to greenhouse strawberry production. In 2001, Verpaalen Soft Fruit started selling tray plants. After which, in 2014, the company started growing raspberries. The company currently carries out the following activities: strawberry production, propagation and nursery of strawberry plants (from starting material to tray plant) and nursery of raspberry and blackberry plants.
The daily management is carried out by John, Willy, Stephan and Marjolein Verpaalen. The company employs 8 permanent employees. The number of seasonal employees varies from 0 to 100.
